The French Presidency has entrusted the Open Diplomacy Institute with the task of organising the Y7, (also called "Youth7"), the youth engagement group of the French G7 Presidency.

The Y7 will be held from June 9th to 13th at ESCP Europe in Paris under the high patronage of Mr Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic. Delegations of young leaders representing all G7 countries as well as invited African countries, including the African Union, will negotiate and draft a final text to make concrete recommendations to G7 Heads of State and Government.

We have chosen to focus our work on addressing economic, gender, climate and technological inequalities.

The final recommendations will be delivered directly to the “sherpas” - diplomatic advisors - during a meeting with the heads of delegation, to feed and influence the work of the G7.

Open Diplomacy is supported in this approach by the following partners: ENEDIS, ESCP Europe, HEIP, IDDRI, IPSP, ISOC, Max Havelaar, Natixis, OECD and OFCE.

→ Broad national consultation on inequalities to prepare for the Y7

Before the summit, the Open Diplomacy Institute launched a major online citizen consultation throughout France to gather proposals from all citizens.

  • 45 associations took part in the Y7 coalition - including figures such as  les Entretiens d'Excellence , les Jeunes Européens, Business and Professional Women, or Nos quartiers ont du talent.
  • 350 contributors have made 163 concrete proposals on our platform. These were discussed and evaluated over a period of 3 months by a community of 1,400 directly involved citizens.
  • About ten events were organized in Paris, Lille, Lyon, Marseille or Bordeaux, each with local actors: associations, social innovation labs or the New Aquitaine region for example
